Andy, the Wales Outdoors owner, used to live in Quakers Yard and also for a time in Aberfan. He knows this area well. Join him for this great day out exploring the best of this hidden gem and taking in some historical sites including the Aberfan Disaster Cemetery, the industrial heritage of the Taff Trail, the remains of a 6th Century Chapel and also the unusual quarry known locally as The Gap. This walk has an easy to get to start point for non drivers - it's a railway station :) This walk is child friendly so long as the young un's are happy to walk for a good few hours :)
This is what it says on the event page where you can RSVP:
'This is a full day long walk in the Valleys with easy access from Abercynon railway station.
We'll meet at 11am to coincide with the train times from Cardiff and walk along the Taff trail, very beautiful along this section, before heading up to and through The Aberfan memorial Cemetery and then onto the top of the hill and following the ridge with great views on all sides down towards the start point but passing through forest and of course The Gap!
Mountain walking kit and a packed lunch is essential.'
