First off HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! And YES! 2017 was AMAZING! WHAT A YEAR!
2017 saw the Wales Outdoors friendship group grow from an occasional walking group with a few adventure activities thrown into the pot into the largest activity group on meetup seeing many new members who began returning for more or were dipping their toes into walks and activities for the first time.
The programme of activities and holidays offered at Adventure Activity South Wales developed into a structured and weekly events listing that offered something for the novice and experienced hiker or climber or foreign travel junky alike.
Here are some of the highlights:
We kicked off 2017 with a New Years residential in Snowdonia - eight intrepid mountaineers tackled the Glyders, Tryfan and on New Years Day, after some liquid refreshment the night before, a walk around a lake :) Here we are on New Years Eve at Capel Curig
We got straight into the adventure with climbing, caving and navigation courses delivered in Jan and Feb
Andy ran a series of walks taking in all of the Nuttall's in the Brecon Beacons National Park, those hills over 2000ft, and ended with a long but fine walk in the Black Mountains in September
Iceland was pretty awesome with Andy delivering three week long and back to back tours all taking in slightly different aspects of the volcanic terrain. Think waterfalls and ice and glaciers and dram in the ocean :)
Andy's recce to France was a great success with adventure weeks for 2018 in the pipeline
Adventure Activity South Wales facilitated our first budget Mountain Leader 1st Aid Course which Andy attended and said was the best of it's kind he had taken part in
We had a very wet and miserable backpacking weekend in the Brecon Beacons - Andy was the only one who completed it!
We had so much fun on the yearly visit to the secret gorge - it was laughter the whole way down (and back up)
Memorable for Andy was his five walks in the waterfalls area of the Brecon Beacons in October - so many new and happy faces
And to round off the year, what better than to leave Wales for winter and to guide a small tour to the summit of El Teide, Spains highest point and on the wonderful island of Tenerife...
Andy has documented most of the adventures he has facilitated or delivered through a Facebook photo diary - you can view the galleries HERE!
Videos of these events can also be found on our Facebook page or our youtube channel.
Over the next few weeks this blog will detail the forthcoming adventurous holidays and events that are already programmed in for 2018 and do look out for the NEW FOR 2018 SUNDAY FITNESS CLUB - Details soon.
