I kicked off 2009 with a relaxed 1:1 weekend.
My client, from London, wanted to get away at short notice and rather than spend the weekend kicking her heels in a hotel spa she was keen to get out there and try some new experiences. So, we chatted briefly on New Years Eve and the following day she was traveling to Wales for a multi activity weekend.
Friday saw us make a full exploration of Porth Yr Ogof, the main group cave in South Wales. Such a cold day but that did not matter, we were underground and taking part in strenuous activity.
Saturday saw us pay a visit to a crag for some climbing and abseiling. The session was structured as an introduction to climbing day. We started with traversing and a small mountain leader style climb before attempting a few top roped climbs of various difficulty and having a look at the main abseil wall.
The walk over the top, to the castle and back through the old quarries was stunning in the late winter sun. This was an extremely cold day, with air temperature dropping dramatically with the sunset.
On Sunday I dropped Liza off at the local railway station and made my way to the Brecon Beacons for a walk up Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales. No pics of this walk as the cloud was low. The ground was frozen and in places crampons would have been rather handy, but all ice was avoidable and a day on the hill without mud, rain or overheating was most welcome.
It's good to rest up over the seasonal break but also good to make a clear 'start in the way you mean to carry on.'
So, as the weekend with Liza was a great success, I am going to add 1:1 weekends to my portfolio. Watch the website for a new page detailing accommodation, activities and costs and feel free to drop me a line if the idea of a weekend away in January takes your fancy.
1:1 instructional weekends will cost around £175.00 inclusive of kit, insurance, accommodation and instruction. You would need to make your own way to Wales and to contribute to the catering.
