On Sunday 4th of January we will be walking in the Brecon Beacons and invite all who read this to join us. The walk will not be the classic routes to Pen y Fan summit, we think that the crowds on this Sunday will detract from a sense of wilderness and isolation, but unfamiliar ground full of interest and challenge on the other side of the A470.
There will be no charge for this day, it is simply a jolly, a fine day out and a chance to meet few keen hillwalkers and outdoors enthusiasts.
The route is likely to be:
- Meet Storey Arms Car Park at 0930
- Ascend Fan Fawr
- Descend to Ystradfellte Reservoir and ascend Fan Dringarth, following the ridge to the Hanging Valley, Craig Cwm-du, for lunch
- Follow the stream to the summit of Fan Frynich
- The onto Craig Cerrig-gleisiad and then the hillside path back to Storey Arms
This is a strenuous route taking in four hills over 600m and covering ground that is rarely visited. The Hanging Valley and Craig Cerrig-gleisiad are particularly beautiful and given good visibility the views across to the Central Brecon Beacons and to the Black Mountain are spectacular.
Guidance with map reading will be available throughout the day and we will do all of the safety stuff, bring emergancy groups kit, first aid supplies etc.
You will need to book this as we will have a maximum number of walkers on the day but remember there is no cost.
You will need to be prepaired with waterproofs, walking boots, packed lunch and flask of something hot.
We can hire walking boots to those who do not have them at £4 pp.
We can assist with transport for those who do not drive for a small fee.
Looking forward to the day - and lets hope for some sunshine and snow!
